Our Story
Square Pegs Arts was founded in 2005 as ‘Square Pegs Drama Club’, in response to a request from a young man, Jack, who has autism and wanted a drama group that was inclusive and accessible for him and his friends. Our Artistic Director, Beth, was approached by Jack’s mum to start a drama group for him and his friends… and Square Pegs was formed!
We soon established an ethos that is rooted in inclusion, kindness and community, and whilst we have grown significantly since 2005, we still hold these values close and have retained a real family feel that goes through the whole organisation. We have a close-knit team of specialist professionals who are supported by our wonderful team of volunteers.
We feel passionately that everyone should be able to access high quality Arts opportunities, and our programme of community projects gives the chance for learning disabled, autistic and neurodivergent people to get involved, make friends, gain confidence and thrive.
We also work to support Disabled people to gain and retain work experience, training and paid work in the Arts, as well as working with other organisations to raise the profile of Disability Arts, Disabled Artists and to make the Arts accessible to everyone.
